Highlights

• Texas Instruments Stellaris LM4Fxxxx
  Support has been added for the new ARM Cortex-M4 device family Stellaris LM4Fxxxx from Texas Instruments.

• Support for Texas Instruments Stellaris ICDI (new in 6.21.3)
  Support has been added for the Texas Instruments Stellaris ICDI debug interface. The same C-SPY debugger driver is used for both the FTDI- and the ICDI-interface. This debugger driver is now called TI Stellaris.

• RTOS awareness support for AVIX-RT (new in 6.21.2)
  An RTOS awareness plug-in for AVIX-RT is now included.

• Support for ST ST-LINK version 2 with SWO (new in 6.20.4)
  The ST debug probe ST-LINK version 2 is now supported. The Serial Wire Output (SWO) functionallity is also implemented, enabling features such as function profiling and interrupt tracing for all STM32 devices.

• Support for Texas Instruments XDS100v2
  The Texas Instruments debug probe XDS100v2 is now supported for TI TMS570 devices. Read about how to configure C-SPY to use a XDS100v2 debug probe in the debugger release notes.

Important information

Migration

• The debugger flash loader mechanism was changed in version 5.40. If your project uses a default flash loader with no extra parameters, no migration work is needed.
  If the debugger detects that your project uses a non-default flash loader or that it uses extra parameters, it will revert to the default flash loader for your device. In addition a .board file will be created in the project directory. If necessary the .board file can be edited and used by manually overriding the default flash loader with this project-specific .board file.

Object format

The compiler, assembler, linker and debugger object format is based on the ARM ABI ELF/Dwarf standard version 2.08. For the standard definition, see the ARM Application Binary Interface.

Windows Vista and Windows7

Windows Vista has a new security mechanism called UAC (User Access Control). Disabling UAC will make Vista work more like XP, but this is not recommended because it will reduce the security of the computer.
It is not necessary for IAR Embedded Workbench IDE to be run as administrator. The only caveat is that modifications to the installed product tree in C:\Program Files\IAR Systems might not work as intended and give unexpected results.
One example is opening and building projects directly from the installed product tree. The build will succeed, but the resulting files (object, list, ...) will not appear where expected. Instead all output files will be redirected by Vista to C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\IAR Systems.
To avoid this, the preferred way is to copy examples outside Program Files, either manually or automatically by using the Information Center to browse to the example.
